On Privacy
I believe in our personal right to privacy we have in our Alaska Constitution and its impact in our daily lives. We don’t need big government in the doctor’s office with us as we make private medical decisions with our doctors. You cannot have freedom without the right to privacy. Can you imagine our state without a constitutionally guaranteed right to privacy? We already have a big problem with technology companies like Facebook and Google that mine our personal information for profit on a daily basis. I support Governor Dunleavy’s Consumer Data Privacy Act that would provide Alaskans the right to know when businesses are collecting their personal information. Under this bill Alaskans will have the right to learn what information businesses have collected about them for the last five years and whether businesses have sold or disclosed that information to third parties. Alaska will have the right to request that businesses delete any personal information that has been collected within the last five years.
